Pantoum – Worth

Happiness comes to those who wait… and wait… and wait…

Couldn’t dreams be worth more than this?

She thought that the sign she carried was worth more than just a glance and a nod.

A measly paycheck barely covered the rent but she slaved on into the Midwestern night.

Couldn’t dreams be worth more than this?

Trying to cover a deployment, apartment and daily living cut her to the quick.

A measly paycheck barely covered the rent but she slaved on into the Midwestern night.

The smell of grease and sweat fill the air like a stale perfume, making the staleness disappear.

Running a marathon, too tired to finish, three strides in.

Each step was heavy in a sea of self doubt.

The Dial-A-Phone Dilemma

Uhmm… Deployment… international calling… WHAT AM I DOING!

Either I can pay out the ass for $3 a minute or go a year without his voice! I can’t always be waiting for skype!

*newbie angst moment*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

And I’ve been trying to find a calling plan to fit but no one offers just straight up “Hey look, your loved ones deployed. We’ll make this simple and easy so you don’t have to worry and he can contact you whenever”….

BITCHES!!!

I mean I am *TRYING* to work this all out but something called DEPLOYMENT won’t let me. I’d be moving in soon but we don’t know how to re-do his lease and LES so that his half of the rent still gets paid and I just need to follow through. I mean I could get a power of attorney but I want him to agree. Or we could do a joint account but you have to be married… Right? So that’d be screwed up because he doesn’t want marriage until after deployment.

FML!

Happy Holidaze

I’m a little but shocked by an act of kindness in my drive thru. Just a normal 9 hour shift, breaks coming later than normal, and I’m in back cash. This lady comes through and pays for her order. Then she doesn’t move. She hands me this little card that says something to the extent of “Merry Christmas, this is random act of kindness. Pass it on! Pick up the tab for a stranger at a┬árestaurant.” I looked at her and she said “I’m paying for the next guy in line.”

Well Okay lady. You’re freakin’ insane. “$26.78”

She handed over the cash without so much as a blink at the total.

Crazy lady, right?

Well when the next person got up there, thats when I had to think of something to say. “Uhmm…. She just paid for your food. She kinda just handed me this card…. *hands over card*”

He looked at it, and his girlfriend put her hands to her mouth. It was really obvious that they were struggling to make it by and possibly living paycheck to paycheck. She looked at him and said “Pass it on.”

Thus we did.

The next car contained a family, and the father was shocked that these random strangers just paid for their meal. I smiled and let them also pass it on.

Some customers worked at Starbucks where apparently people do it all the time. Let me tell you this: Starbucks is starting to sound more and more like my kinda place. Because after being a part of something so awesome, I can’t help it. I want to watch more smiles like what I did for an hour and a half that we did this.
